2012 MVC WRESTLING SUPER MEET

Date: Saturday, January 28, 2012

Site: Iowa City West High School, 2901 Melrose Avenue (click for directions)

Admission: Adults - $6.00  Students & Senior Citizens - $5.00
                  Admission is good for the entire day.

Time Schedule:  Per MVC Bylaws
  7:30 a.m. –       Coaches Seed Meeting will be held in the West High Cafeteria. This will begin promptly at 7:30 am.  Your entry form will serve as your entries and will be used if you are absent or late.
  8:00 a.m. –       Weigh-ins will be held in the wrestling room.  Bring your team lineup on regular IHSAA weigh-in forms.
  9:50 a.m. –       Parade of Champions followed by National Anthem
10:00 a.m. --     First Round – Championship bracket (4 mats)
Second Round – Championship bracket, first round consolation and second round consolation bracket (4 mats)
- Scheduled Break -
Third Round – Championship bracket semi-finals, third round consolation (4 mats)
Final Round – Simultaneously by weight Championship, 3rd Place, 5th Place and 7th Place Matches (All matches 2-2-2)  (4 mats)

Coaches Meeting:        

1.     Bracket Seeding Criteria per MVC By-laws

3.     Business Meeting to follow the seeding meeting

Awards: Coaches will vote for the most Outstanding Wrestler; winner will be announced at the end of the awards presentation. Medals are awarded to individuals placing 1st thru 6th in each weight class. Please have the winners at the victory stand to be introduced at the conclusion of the meet. Coach of the winning athlete at each weight class will present the awards.

Team Scoring: Team points will follow the State Meet format; eight places, 16, 12, 9, 7, 5, 3, 2, 1. Two advancement points will be awarded to all competitors receiving a bye in the first round competition regardless of the outcome of the following match.  Additionally, one advancement point on the back side (consolation round) to all competitors receiving a bye in the first round that a consolation match is wrestled.

Parade of Champions:  All 14 teams will parade into the big gym from our little gym area before the meet begins.  Teams will be arranged in alphabetical order.  Cheerleaders will follow their respective team.  Our announcer will introduce your school, coaching staff and all-academic athletes.  Please remain in line for the playing of the National Anthem.

Locker Facilities: Will be assigned upon arrival.

Pass Gate: Participating teams will be allowed to admit free of charge:

  1. 14 wrestlers
  2. Varsity Coach and assistants
  3. Manager and video personnel
  4. Six Cheerleaders in uniform
  5. Administrators possessing IHSAA passes.
  6. MVC Coaches and Principal pass holders

Bad Weather Communications: In case there would be weather or travel concerns on January 28th, you can contact Marv Reiland on this cell phone # 319-530-9328.  We will notify coaches if there is a postponement so please send a coaches cell number with your entry form. 

Trainer: Certified athletic trainer, Sheila Stiles, will be on duty to address injury concerns. Teams should have “blood” personnel available to help their own athletes when necessary.

Concessions: The West High Booster Club will provide a full service concession stand with sandwiches, pizza, beverage and candy for athletes and fans.  NO OUTSIDE FOOD OR DRINK IS PERMITTED BY FANS.  Team coolers must accompany team and remain in team area.  Please inform your parents that personal coolers will not be permitted.  Thank you.

Hospitality Room: West High will provide a hospitality room located in the cafeteria for bench help, officials and coaching staffs.  The West High Cheerleaders will provide a hospitality area for cheerleaders.

Odds & Ends:   Please have your wrestlers pay close attention to the announcements so they are ready to go as soon as the previous match is completed.  You will be responsible for your own valuables and equipment – locker rooms are not secured.
