MEET LOCATION: The MVC Varsity Championships will be held
in the Kennedy High School pool, which is located at 4545 Wenig
Road NE in Cedar Rapids. The pool entrance is located in the
south end of the building. Teams may access the building using
the South parking lot entrance along 42nd Street NE and
Wenig Road NE. The Kennedy pool is 25 yards in length and
marked off with 6 seven-foot lanes. The pool is equipped with an
electronic timing system (IST Timing System). The diving tank is
12 feet in depth and equipped with one Duraflex and Maxiflex
diving board.
1. No contestant will be permitted to compete in more
than four events; no more than two of which shall
be individual events and no more than three of which
shall be relay events. Relays count as one event.
2. Each school may enter three participants for individual events and two relay teams for each event. All individual and ONE relay teams may score points. Participation on either relay team will count toward the individual entry limit.
SEEDING: Swimmers shall be seeded according to past meet performances. Coaches shall substantiate times with official meet results if a question arises. Times should be seeded to a hundredth of a second.
TOWELS-VALUABLES: Due to limited locker room space and supervision of locker room areas, coaches are instructed to have all swimmers/divers provide their own security. Athletes must bring their own towels and locks to secure valuables. Athletes should be reminded to NOT bring valuable items without proper supervision and security. Kennedy High School is not responsible for lost or stolen articles.
FOOD/SNACKS: The Kennedy High School Booster Club will be operating a concession stand throughout the meet. Outside coolers and concession will not be permitted. Team coolers will be admitted along with team personnel.
CONTESTANTS/TEAM CHECK-IN: All swimmers/divers, managers, and coaches must pass through the pass gate and enter the pool from the locker rooms. Swimmers in street clothes will not be admitted to the pool deck and managers must have identification. Only competitors are allowed on deck.
RULES: Interscholastic rules as outlined in the swimming guide shall govern all events not specifically adopted by the IGHSAU. Consult your 2008-2009 National Federation Rules book for details. Each school is limited to three contestants in all events and one team in relay events. No contestant will be permitted to compete in more than four events; no more than two of which shall be individual events and no more than three of which shall be relay events.
JURY OF COACHES: At the Meet scratch meeting, coaches meeting, coaches will select a JURY OF COACHES. Four coaches are to be selected to meet, confer, and rule with the Meet referee on any problems that come up during the meet. These coaches will be selected as follows: One coach from Dubuque, one coach from Iowa City, one coach from Cedar Rapids, and one coach from Cedar Falls/Waterloo serve on the Jury of Coaches. Each member school has the right to appeal to the Meet Manager within 48 hours after completion of them meet. If no appeal by member schools is made within forty-eight (48) hours, the Meet results are official.

DIVING PRELIMINARIES THROUGH FINALS will begin promptly at 5:00 pm. Teams are limited to three (3) varsity divers. The Meet Manager will randomly select diving positions. National Federation guidelines will be used to determine Diving finalists. All entries will participate in the preliminary round of competition. If more than sixteen divers are entered in the semi-finals, four additional qualifiers will compete in the semi-final round. The final round of competition will consist of the top sixteen divers after eight rounds of diving. Preliminary competition consists of five dives (two required and three optional). Diving semi-finals will begin five minutes following the completion of the diving prelims for the 20 divers with the highest preliminary scores (In the event of a tie for the final qualifying position, all divers who are tied will advance to the next round of competition). The semi-finals consist of three dives (two required and one optional). The diving finals will commence ten minutes following the completion of the semi-finals. The top 16 divers from the semi-final round will perform three dives (one required and two optional). The six optional dives shall include at least one dive chosen from each of the five groups. More than one optional dive from the same group is not permitted through the semi-finals. Cumulative diving scores will determine the MVC Diving Champion.
DIVING JUDGES FOR MEETS: The Coaches Association recommended to the IGHSAUthat five diving judges (one from each school) be selected prior to competition.
SWIMMING FINALS will begin promptly at 12:00 pm. The order of events will be as outlined in the 2008 IGHSAU Swimming and Diving Manual. There will be a fifteen-minute break immediately following the 50-yard Freestyle and an additional ten-minute break following the 500-yard Freestyle.
TIMING: Electronic timing (IST Timing Systems) with button back up will be used. Alternate watches will be on each lane.
LANE ASSIGNMENTS: There will be no preliminaries in the Conference Meet. Contestants will be seeded based on time performance.
SCORING: The meet will be scored using NFHS 16-place scoring.
AWARDS: Medals will be awarded for first through sixth place finishes in both individual and relay events.
MEET OFFICIALS: John Cooper and Shawn Thomsen have been assigned to act as the Meet Starter and Referee.
