    West's Bartlett steams into state golf tournament

    WATERLOO - A smile stretched like a fault-line across Andrea Bartlett's face Monday afternoon.
    The round of a lifetime will do that to you.
    Bartlett, a Waterloo West senior, used a career-low 77 to top the individual leaderboard at the Class 4A girls' regional meet at Irv Warren Golf Course. Bartlett now moves on to the state meet, as will Cedar Falls' team, which qualified by finishing second to Marshalltown (343-350).
    "I figured it was my last guaranteed round ever for high school," explained Bartlett, who posted a pair of birdies on the day. "So I was just going to play like I never had another try. And everything just went great - I couldn't have asked for a better round."
    Even on a day so steamy it sent one Cedar Rapids Prairie competitor to the hospital with heat exhaustion, Bartlett rarely lost her focus. Stellar approach shots - plus three on-course bottles of water - equalled the recipe for success.
    "My putting was pretty good," Bartlett noted. "And I definitely had some consistent iron shots that helped."
    Cedar Falls qualified for state for a second straight season. Juniors Sonja Przybylski and Sam Heinen led the way, firing rounds of 82 and 83, respectively.
    "It feels really good. This year we're more steady and solid," said Przybylski, whose day was highlighted by a 30-foot birdie putt on the sixth hole.
    Heinen came within 12 inches of a hole-in-one on the par-3 ninth. She, too, exuded confidence at day's end, in the clubhouse.
    "I like the really competitive tournaments," Heinen noted, "because the pressure just makes me play better, I guess. It'll give me a lot of confidence if I can keep this up."
    Waterloo East, which finished 11th in the team standings, was led Monday by Holly Bass' 96.
    State meets for all classes are June 1-2. The Class 4A meet is at Otter Creek Golf Course in Ankeny.
    Bartlett and company know they'll have to ratchet their game up even another level next week.
    "I'm going to try and get a few practice rounds in," Bartlett said, smiling. "The last day of school's tomorrow, so I can't get called for skipping school."

    RESULTS - 2010 MVC Divisional Girls' Golf Meet

    The 2010 MVC Mississippi Divisional Girls Golf Tournament hosted by Iowa City West at Brown Deer Golf Course was shortened to 9 holes today due to the weather conditions. The divisional title was determined by a 27 hole total. 

    Congratulations to the West High Trojans for winning their first ever girls golf divisional title. 

    Medalist was Brookelyn Klemesrud (12th) Iowa City West 83 - 39= 122

    Mary Goodfellow, Head Coach Iowa City West was named Coach of the Year!

    Brookelyn Klemesrud, Iowa City West was named Player of the Year!

    Welcome to the 2010 Class 4A – Region 3 Women’s Golf Tournament. This event will be held at Irv Warren Golf Course (Click for Map), which is located at 1000 Fletcher Ave, Waterloo, IA 50701 (319) 234-9271. From US 20, take the Ansborough Ave. exit, turn right on to Ansborough (north), go to 4th St. and take a right. This will take you past Irv Warren Golf Course.

    A driving range is available at All Golf Center (Click for Map), at 1850 W Ridgeway, Waterloo, IA 50701 (319) 236-1010. The driving range will open at 7:30 am. Prices: 2 for 1 Buckets (approximately 200 balls) - $8.00. To get to All Golf Center from US 20, take the US 63 exit to Ridgeway and take a right. All Golf Center will be on the left (about 1 mile).

    Starting time: 9:00 am shotgun start. There will be a coaches meeting at 8:20 am and a players meeting at 8:40 am. USGA rules will be in effect. A rules committee of 3 coaches will be appointed for the purpose of resolving any disputes. The club pro’s decision will be final in all disputes.

    Irv Warren requests that no coolers or food be brought into the club house or on the patio. Please leave coolers in your vans/vehicles or across the driveway from the clubhouse (picnic tables). Thank you for your cooperation.
