Waterloo West High School has a long tradition of excellence in academics, fine arts, music, sportsmanship, athletics, and citizenship. The mission of West High is to provide the highest quality education to allow students the opportunity to achieve at their highest possible potential. Current enrollment is approximately 1800 students comprised of a broad range of socio-economic and cultural backgrounds. Course offerings range from Advanced Placement classes to a strong vocational program that is aligned with a community college. To graduate, students must complete 44 credit hours along with achieving a score of 251 on the content reading and qualitative thinking portions of the Iowa Tests of Educational Development. Students have many opportunities to get involved with almost 30 activities, organizations, and/or clubs to join and 23 different sports.
