2010 Wahawk Athletes of the Year

Abbie Cosselman and Connor McClain selected for 2010

 The 2010 recipients of the Clyde Artus MVP Award honoring West High’s most valuable athletes are Abbie Cosselman and Connor McClain

Abbie Cosselman
During Abbie's four years at Waterloo West, she participated in volleyball, basketball and track. Her awards and accomplishments include the following:
  • 2-Year Varsity Player/Letter Winner for Volleyball
  • 2nd Team All Metro – 2008 Season (Junior Year)
  •   Honorable Mention –All Conference – 2009 Season   (Senior Year)
  • 1st Team All Metro – 2009 Season (Senior Year)


  • 3-Year Varsity  Player/Letter Winner for Basketball
  • Honorable Mention All Conference – 2009-2010 Season
  •  Honorable Mention All Metro – 2009-2010 Season


  •  4-Year Varsity Runner/Letter Winner
  • 4-Year State Qualifier in Individual Events
  • Team Co-Captain 2010 Season

  Throughout high school, Abbie was involved and participated in numerous special activities at West High. In addition to being a Homecoming Candidate in '09 and a member of the Waterloo West Student Senate, she also helped build homecoming parade floats for her class, joined in the efforts to help clean up after the Parkersburg tornado, hosted a bowling and pizza night with the Varsity Basketball Girls for special needs kids. 

Abbie's future plans are to attend University of Northern Iowa.

Connor McClain
During Connor McClain's four years at Waterloo West, he participated in Football, Swimming, Basketball and Baseball. His accomplishments include the following:
  Football (3 years)
  • 2009 letter winner
  • 2009 1st Team MVC All-Conference

  Swimming (2 years)

  • 1 year letter winner

  Basketball (1 year)

  Baseball (4 years)

  • 3 year letter winner
  • 2nd Team MVC All-Conference ('08)
  • 1st Team MVC All-Conference ('09)
  • 2nd Team All-State ('09)
  • Elite All-State Team ('09)

Connor was active in the Waterloo West High Student Senate, and was an Honor Roll member all four years. 

Connor's future plans are to attend Indiana State University, majoring in Athletic Training, and to participate on the Indiana State Baseball Team.
