Hall of Fame Criteria

Hall of Fame Eligibility Criteria

 

1) Must be a graduate of West High School

2) Must be in an IGHSAU or IHSAA sanctioned sport.

3) All Team State Champions and First Team All State Individuals/State Champions in the following sports:

a. Football

b. Volleyball

c. Boy’s and Girl’s Cross Country

d. Boy’s and Girl’s Golf

e. Boy’s and Girl’s Tennis

f. Boy’s and Girl’s Track

g. Boy’s and Girl’s Basketball

h. Boy’s and Girl’s Swimming

i. Boy’s and Girl’s Soccer

j. Wrestling

k. Softball

l. Baseball

4) Athletes must have been selected by one of these agencies:

a. Iowa Newspaper Association (INA)

b. Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union (IGHSAU)

c. Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA)

d. Des Moines Register

e. Iowa Daily Press Association (IDPA)

5) Waterloo West High School graduates that have been selected to a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place team or placed 1st, 2nd, or 3rd, in a NCAA sponsored athletic event for Division I, II, or III, or NAIA.


Elite Athletes Hall of Fame Criteria

 

1) Must be a graduate of West High School.

2) Will only be considered for each sport individually.

3) Must score 100 points using the following criteria:

a. 35 points- Olympic Champion.

b. 30 points- Professional Hall of Fame.

c. 25 points- Olympic Qualifier

d. 25 points- Professional all-star.

e. 20 points- Professional Athlete.

f. 25 points- College National Champion/1st Team All-American

g. 20 points- College All-American. (Non-1st Team)

h. 15 points- 1st Team All-state in a team sport or State Champion in an individual sport.

i. 5 points- 2nd or 3rd Team All-state or state place winner in an individual sport.

j. 1 point- State Qualifier in an individual sport or honorable mention All-state in a in a team sport.

k. 25 points- Special Awards received in high school or college. This could include:

- Items such as Mr. or Mrs. Basketball, Gatorade Player of the Year,

- NCAA MVP- both seasonally and during tournament play, leader in an NCAA category.

 

NOTE- consideration will be given for other honors that do not fit into any of the above criteria. Consideration and point amounts will be determined by the Athletic Director.


Elite Coaches Hall of Fame Criteria

 

1)    Must be a coach of a sanctioned sport.

2)    If you are a coach of more than one sport, each sport will be considered individually.

3)    Must score 150 points using the following criteria:

Individual Sports- Boy’s and Girl’s Golf, Boy’s and Girl’s Track, Boy’s and Girl’s Tennis, Boy’s and Girl’s Swimming, Boy’s and Girl’s Cross Country, and Wrestling.

  1. 1 point for each year as a head coach of that specific sport.
  2. 1 point for each winning season.
  3. 3 points for each Divisional, Conference, Regional, District, or Substate Championship.
  4. 1 point for each year that you coached an individual state place winner.
  5. 3 points for each individual state champion.
  6. 10 points for each top 3 finish in the state tournament.
  7. 20 points for each State Championship team.
  8. 20 points for being selected a member of your sport’s State Hall of Fame.
  9. 30 points for being selected a member of your sport’s National Hall of Fall
 

Team Sports - Boy’s Basketball, Girl’s Basketball, Football, Volleyball, Baseball, and Softball.

  1. 1 point for each year as head coach of that specific sport.
  2. 1 point for each winning season.
  3. 3 points for each Divisional or conference championship.
  4. 5 for each team that qualifies for the state tournament or state playoffs (Football).
  5. 3 points for each team win at the state tournament.
  6. 10 points for each state championship game or match reached.
  7. 20 points for each state championship won.
  8. 20 points for being selected a member of your sport’s State Hall of Fame.
  9. 30 points for being selected a member of your sport’s National Hall of Fame.
 

NOTE- consideration will be given for other honors that do not fit into any of the above criteria. Consideration and point amounts will be determined by the Athletic Director.

 

4)    You must be retired from coaching that specific sport at West High School.
